Northern Tier Federal Credit Union is a cooperative, financial institution founded May 6, 1959 to provide a source of credit at reasonable interest rates and encourage savings from its members by paying a higher than average dividend. The membership is limited to those falling within a common bond. The common bond at Northern Tier is anyone living within a 50 mile radius of Velva and Willow City, organizations of such persons, and current NTFCU members’ immediate families living elsewhere.
The Credit Union is a democratic institution with each member holding one vote. The membership elects the board of directors, who are charged with setting the policies and the goals of the credit union. The President is charged with implementing these policies for the day to day operation of the credit union.
